Mother Lottie Bell Radden Hampton was born on October 31, 1928, in McCormick, SC, the daughter of the late George Thomas Radden and Sallie Elizabeth Cato Radden. She comes from a family of 14 siblings and inherited a rich legacy of faith, family and character.
Mother Hampton was educated in the Greenville County Public School System. She was employed at the former Greenville Memorial Hospital System for over 25 years in the Nursing and Dietary Departments giving faithful and dedicated service. She set a record for outstanding performance. After her retirement from Greenville Memorial Hospital, she worked in the Volunteer Service Department for a year.
Mother Hampton accepted Christ and was baptized at an early age. She joined the Long Branch Baptist Church where she worked faithfully on the Usher Board, Sick Committee and as a Sunday School Teacher until her health began to decline.
Mother Hampton married Herbert Hampton, Sr. on July 18, 1949, and was blessed with five children, William Leroy, Mary Elizabeth, Herbert, Jr. Frankie Lee and Joseph Craig.
She was preceded in death by her son, Frankie Lee Hampton; six brothers, Rev. Willie T. Radden, Rev. James C. Radden, Rev. Joseph N. Radden, Rev. Floyd Radden, Deacon Eddie L. Radden and Timothy Radden and four sisters, Amie R. Nelson, Marth R. Wyche, Helen R. Posley and Rev. Ruth R. Williams.
She has four children left to cherish her memories: one daughter, Mary E. Hampton (Samuel) Westmoreland of Shillington, PA; three sons, William Leroy Radden of Pasadena, CA, Herbert (Thomasena) Hampton, Jr. of Piedmont, SC and Joseph Craig Hampton of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Marie Radden Epps of Las Vegas, NV and Pearl V. Traylor of Dorchester, MA; one brother, William G. Radden of Columbia, SC; six grandchildren, Lesia A. Westmoreland of Magnolia, DE, Samara E. (James) Touchton of Groton, NY, Tamra Hampton, of Easley, SC, Kimberly Mitchell of Simpsonville, SC, Jonathan Hampton of Greenville, SC and Ashley Hampton of Anderson, SC; seven great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
