Mr. Luther James “Luke” Freeman was born on November 9, 1929, in Anderson County, South Carolina, to Julius and Maude Freeman Williams. After growing up in Anderson County, SC, he moved to Greenville, SC, where he married his wife, Earline Cox Freeman.
Even though he became disabled as a young man, he continued to work in agriculture and led a productive life raising his children and spending time with family. He loved going fishing and would often take his children. He also enjoyed playing checkers, singing, western TV shows and spending time with his family and talking about his 6 grands, 14 great-grands and 5 great-great-grands.
A lover of the Bible, he continued to read and study the Bible. He would talk about it to anyone willing to have a discussion.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Maude Freeman Williams; his wife, Earline Freeman; a son, Michael Freeman; and a sister, Dorothy Freeman.
Luther leaves behind his daughter, Dorothy (David) Smith of Piedmont. SC; a son, Jonathon Freeman of Greenville, SC; grandsons, David Smith, Jr., of Greenville, SC, Derek (Sandra) Smith of Simpsonville, SC, and Patrick (Brandy) Smith of Fountain Inn, SC; grand-daughters, Sonya (Melvin) Jackson of Piedmont, SC, Moesha Freeman of Greenville, SC, and Dutches (Willie) Williams of Greenville, SC; fourteen great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of cousins, other relatives and friends.
