Maggie Sullivan

January 8, 1924 — July 8, 2019

Mrs. Maggie Lee Sullivan was born January 4, 1924, to the late Mr. Columbus Abraham Wakefield and Mrs. Della Mae Bradley-Wakefield in Greenville, South Carolina. Maggie made her entry into Heaven on July 8, 2019, at McCall’s Hospice House in Simpsonville, South Carolina.

Mrs. Sullivan was a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) and was employed as a Dietician for Crucible Chemical.

She was an active member of Mountain View Baptist Church, where she served as a member of Circle #3 and #5, a Senior Women’s Missionary, and Deaconess Board. She also served as a committee member in planning for her church’s participation in the Southern Baptist Convention. She volunteered for Meals on Wheels, and was an active participant in senior activities at the local YWCA, Tabernacle Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. She enjoyed travel and activism within her residential community, Kennedy Park. .

Her personal sources of enjoyment were cooking for family and friends, perfecting her cooking skills with classes, gardening and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Rufus “Sonny” Sullivan; and her siblings, Lois Young, Mary L. Armer, Mable Wright, James Roy, Columbus Jr., Willie, Jacob and Joseph Wakefield.

To carry on the family legacy, she leaves behind: two daughters, Erica Smith of Charleston, and Della Bailey Benisrael of Greenville; three sons, Rufus Sullivan, Jr. and Nathaniel (Mary Ann) Sullivan, both of Greenville, and Michael (Delphine) Sullivan of Fayetteville, NC; one brother, William Wakefield of Orange Grove, CA, Wakefield; sixteen grandchildren; twenty-five great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
