Mrs. Mamie Lee Collington, 92, of Greenville, South Carolina, transitioned on Saturday, October 12, 2019, at McCall Hospice House. She was a daughter of the late Julius Sr., and Minnie Lee Boozer Johnson.
She attended Sterling High School in Greenville County Schools. She was a devoted worker in the manufacturing field for many years and was a housekeeper for several families in the Greenville area. She was joined in holy matrimony to Edward Earl Collington on August 11, 1959 and into this union, four daughters Carolyn, Sheila, Sharon and Karen were born.
She joined Tabernacle Baptist Church at a young age and served faithfully for many years. She was a member of several committees at the church including the Mother’s Guild, the Seniors on the Move and the Floral Choral.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Edward Earl Collington; brothers, Hodges Johnson, Julius Johnson, Jr., and Walter Johnson; her sisters, Nell Makins and Leuvenia Edwards; as well as her great-granddaughter, Madison Collington.
Left to cherish many fond memories are her daughters, Carolyn Johnson of Mauldin, SC, Sheila (Eric) Norris of Greenville, SC, Sharon Wood of Atlanta, GA and Karen Collington of the home; one sister, Edna Hawthorne of Greenville, SC; seven grandchildren. Corey (Deniela) Collington of Anderson, SC, Shareeka Thompson of Piedmont, SC, Eric (Jessica) Wood of Piedmont, SC, Brandon Reeder of the home, Terrence Thompson of Atlanta, Ga, April and Amber Hudson of Atlanta, GA; nine great-grandchildren, Layla, Cadence, Jayden and Athena Wood,Kerrington and Kyleigh Collington, Dezmon and Cameron Freeman and Caden Reeder; and host of nieces and nephews.
