Margaret Thomason

December 26, 1948 — September 13, 2022

Mrs. Margaret Ann Thomason, age seventy-three, of Pelzer South Carolina,
transitioned unexpectedly on Tuesday, September 13, 2022, at Prisma Health.
She was born December 26, 1948, in Princeton S.C. She was the oldest of five
Children, born to the late Rev. Sylvester Golden Sr. and Marcell Meekins Golden.
She was married to the late Glenn Charles Thomason, Sr. for 25 years.

Mrs. Thomason was Baptized early in her Life at New Bethlehem Baptist Church in
Princeton, where she remained as a life-long member. Mrs. Thomason attended the
public school system of Greenville County, South Carolina, where she graduated from
Washington High School in 1966. She received her Under Graduate Degree from Knoxville
College and later received a Master’s Degree from Clemson University.

Mrs. Thomason was passionate about serving children and her community. To that end,
She devoted her professional life to ensuring a successful life for others. She began her 45 year
career in education as a teacher, first at Mauldin Elementary, for Greenville County Schools
and taught for 14 years in various Upstate Elementary Schools. She served two Years as assistant principal at Buena Vista Elementary, prior to serving as Principal at Chestview Elementary in
Greer S.C., where she served for 23 years. During her tenure at Crestview, the School was named
a National Blue Ribbon School of Excellence, received the Palmetto Gold Award seven times for
student achievement and twice received the Red-Carpet School award for its customer and family-friendly environment.

After Crestview Elementary, Mrs. Thomason went on to organize and become the very first
Principle of A. J. Whittenberg Elementary School of Engineering, at 420 Westfield Street, Greenville S.C.,
where she served until her retirement in 2015. She had a great love for Children and as a
part of her legacy, her motto has always been “we embrace all children and everyone shall
have a chance to learn and to be successful”.

She is survived by one son, Glenn Charles Thomason Jr., of Greenville SC; one sister,
Shirley J. Golden of Greenville SC; two brothers, Sylvester (Martha) Golden Jr., and David
Golden, both of Greenville SC; nieces, nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services: Saturday, September 24, 2022, 2:00pm, at Watkins Garret and Woods
Mortuary, Interment in Enoree Fork Baptist Church cemetery
