Marion Scott

June 23, 1934 — December 29, 2018

Mr. Marion Edward “Ed” Scott, 84, of Simpsonville, South Carolina, passed on Saturday, December 29, 2018, at Prince Georges Hospital in Maryland. He was the son of the late Andrew and Frances Brown Scott.

Marion joined the United States Air Force in 1951. In 1955 he enlisted into the United States Army 325th Airborne Regiment at Ft. Bragg, North Carolina. In 1959, he married Betty Lou Pittman Scott. During their 46 year marriage they had four children together. In 1965, Marion was sent to Vietnam with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. His unit was the only one to make a parachute jump during the war. Marion served two tours in the Vietnam War. He made a total of 435 jumps during his Military career. Marion served a total of twenty-two and a half years in the U.S. Military. He served four and a half years in the Air Force and 18 years in the Army. During his military career, Marion was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Master Parachute Badge, Republic Career Service Medal, Vietnam Metal with 2 Bars, Bronze Star Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal, Good Conduct Medal with 3 Bars and Overseas with 4 Bars. He also joined the Mason and made it to the 32nd degree. After his military career, Marion purchased his own truck and started hauling different types of materials across the country. In 1995, Marion retired and helped out family and friends. In 2004, Marion remarried to LaShawntae Kelley Hawkins Scott, moved back to South Carolina. Marion joined Old Pilgrim Missionary Baptist Church in 2005, where he remained an active member. During his fourteen and a half year marriage to LaShawntae he had three more sons. During his life Marion had touched so many people and made differences in their lives. Marion’s journey came to an end on December 29, 2018.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Joshua LaMarcus Scott; and a sister, Ethelene Scott.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are his wife, LaShawntae Kelley H. Scott of the home; one daughter, Pamela (David) Dance of Oxon Hill, MD; six sons, Gregory (Neicy) Scott of Monroe, NC, Reginald (Judy) Scott of District Heights, MD, Iran (LaVita) Scott of Springfield, VA, Deontae Scott and Jeremiah Scott, both of the home; six grandsons; eleven great-grand-children; and a host of other relatives and friends.
