Martha Smith

Mrs. Martha Ann “Mot” Smith, 86, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed on Wednesday, January 22, 2020, at her residence. She was a daughter of the late Garfield Bolden and Verna Williams Mahaffey.

She was educated in the Greenville County schools and was a former employee of MacShore Classics better known as Carolina Blouse.

Mother Smith was a member of Bethel Church of God Holiness, where she participated in different auxiliaries such as the Bethel Senior Choir and the Church Culinary Committee, and was Mother of the church. She also was a community representative for UNICEF.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Isaiah Smith; two sisters, Eliza Mae Bailey and Shirley Jean Smith; and two brothers, T.C. Owens and Fred Alvin.

Mother Smith leaves to cherish fond and loving memories, two daughters, Verna Marie Young and Crystal Dowdy, both of Greenville, SC; two sons, Eric Smith of Anniston, AL, and Veldon (Trudy) Smith of Woodruff, SC; seven grandchildren, Mark, Jamie, Courtney, Gregory, Alex, Montasia and Dimitri; eight great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
