Martha Speach

December 23, 1933 — November 11, 2019

Jesus said, “Come unto Me, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn of Me; and ye shall find rest to your souls.” Matthew 11:28-29

Mrs. Martha “Mot” Speach, 85, of Mauldin, South Carolina, passed on Monday, November 11, 2019, at her residence. She was the daughter of the late Ben Griffin and Zolene Mayes Griffin Garlington.

She attended public schools in Ninety-Six, South Carolina, and was a plant seamstress for over 35 years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. She was baptized at Young Mt. Zion Baptist Church in Chappelle, South Carolina, later she became a member at New Inspirational Baptist Church in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and later joined the Poplar Spring Missionary Baptist Church in Simpsonville, South Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Willie Peek; a grandson, Jamon Webster Gardner; and two brothers, Willie Mayes and Johnny Griffin.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are her daughter, Rosia “Rotchie” (James L. “Jimmy”) Gardner of Mauldin, SC; two grandchildren, James Alex (Mesha) Gardner of Houston, TX, and Jami Alexis (Dominque) Wilkins of Greenville, SC, two great-grandchildren, Bryce Dixon Wilkins and Brayden Mayes Wilkins; two special friends, Ruby Sanders and Nancy Williams, both of Philadelphia, PA; and a host of other relatives and friends.
