Born in Dinwiddie County, Virginia, she was a daughter of the late Benjamin Emmanuel and Mary Alice Hayes Gilliam. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Surviving: one daughter, Marjon (Andrew) Ford of Simpsonville, SC; three grandchildren, Jamauri, Jasmine and Jaxynn; nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.
