.Ms. Mary Loretta Young, the daughter of the late Harry and Georgiana James Young, was born on January 13, 1951, in Marion, South Carolina.
Early on Friday morning, October 14, 2016, at her home in Simpsonville, South Carolina, Loretta was peacefully called home to be with the Lord.
Loretta was a graduate of Voorhees College in Denmark S.C, where she earned her Bachelors of Arts Degree in Social Studies. She taught Sunday school at Israel Metropolitan CME Church, served as the Sunday School Superintendent for several years, and was a member of the “Branches Intercessory Prayer Team”. Her love for God was displayed in her talk and her worship and praise. Loretta cherished her daily devotions, Christian music and was a strong advocate for our seniors. She fully enjoyed and appreciated how and when she could serve them in time of need or in time of want.
And let us not forget her love for anything chocolate!
Loretta will be missed by her work family at the Dodge Mechanical Division of Baldor Electric in Greenville, South Carolina, where she dedicated 36 years of service. She was faithful to her walking club where she built strong adoration for folk like Alice Ossler, Virginia Buff and Rob McElrath. Then there was the Birthday Club where Chris Huff, Lynn Venable, Debbie Spillers, Glenda Dotson, Karen Dawsey and Jeri Hill, met celebrating each other’s birthdays where we are sure she slipped in a chocolate cake as someone else’s favorite flavor at times! In those 36 years, one person stands out in a very special way, Charlene Stenhouse. She has, in almost every way become Loretta’s sister. And for that, her blood family is eternally grateful.
She was preceded in death by six sisters and one brother. She leaves to cherish her memories her sister, Mary Lee Berry of Dorchester, MA; half-sister, Harristine Hammonds of Marion, SC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives, and friends.
