Merlee Williams

March 29, 1927 — January 15, 2023

Mrs. Merlee Loures Williams, 95, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed on Sunday, January 15, 2023, at Simpsonville Post-Acute. She was a daughter of the late Ezell and Dafneve Patton Loures. Mrs. Williams was the wife of the late Rev. Herbert Lee Williams for 53 years.

At an early age, she accepted Christ and joined Mt. Pleasant Missionary Baptist Church under pastoral leadership of Reverend Joe Stevens. She was a lifelong faithful servant in numerous ministries including the choir, Secretary and Treasurer of the Beautification Ministry, Missionary Ministry, Senior Ministry, and Women’s Day Program.

Following completion of high school requirements, she graduated from a Greenville Vocational Program and worked as a Home Health Caregiver. Up until her very last moment here on earth into eternity with her Heavenly Father, God was profoundly Mother Williams’ #1 priority in life as she loyally wore many hats as loving wife, wonderful mother, reliable family member and supportive friend to many. In addition to her pride and endless love for her family, she especially went the extra mile in her career working at Carolina Blouse Company, selling Watkins products and caregiving for various Home Health services. She always carried her light even into her job in all situations with whomever she encountered. In time, her light even positively influenced the hearts and behavior of some of her most challenging patients. Her love and commitment to Christ truly exuded who and whose she was brightly as she lived her life to prepare for her Heavenly home.

In addition to her passion for church, family and friends; she loved to travel. Among the many trips, she enjoyed longer visits to GA, FL, NC, NJ, TX. Her most cherished trip of all was her 50th Wedding Anniversary Cruise to the Bahamas that her children gifted to their parents. Mother Merlee Williams “lived her life” to the fullest to the very end until God welcomed her home as she joined her husband on his actual earth birthday in their “eternal love story”.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by: siblings, George Loures, Ozell Loures, J.C. Loures, Helen Hill, Magdalene Fuller & Ruby Hill Butler; a daughter, Louise (Lisa) Jones; grandson, Ellis Jones and great grandson, Lawreese Williams.

Surviving: one sister, Mary Jane (John) Walker of Jersey City, two daughters, Barbara W. (Stanley) Williams of Conyers, GA and Loretta Williams-Ohonba of Stone Mountain, GA; four sons, Willie Keith Williams, and Ivan Kent Williams, both of Greenville, SC; Herbert Williams, Jr. of Winston Salem, NC and Anthony Williams of Bridgeport, Connecticut; fourteen grandchildren and a host of great-grands, other relatives and friends.

As Mother Merlee Williams is celebrated and missed, she wants you all to know about an ongoing desire that she had and would like to leave here for all. She wants everyone that she encountered and/or loved to get Saved and that perfection is not required as you live for “your eternal life”. God will meet you where you are right now.
