Mother Doris Fowler Barksdale was born to the late Ed and Mary Posey Fowler in Abbeville County, South Carolina. She went home to be with her Heavenly Father on February 5, 2017. She was the fifth child of eight and the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mother Barksdale was saved at an early age, she accepted the Lord as her own personal Savior and joined Dunns Creek Baptist Church in Ware Shoals, South Carolina. Later, she became a member of the Macedonia F.B.H. Church in Greenville, South Carolina. There she continued her walk with the Lord and kept the faith. She enjoyed studying God’s Word, listening to gospel music and testifying of God’s goodness. She was a spiritual prayer warrior and she believed God was able to do anything.
Mother Barksdale retired from Furman University Student Center after twenty-two years of loyal service.
She was married to the late Charlie Barksdale and to this union, seven children were born.
She was preceded in death by three daughters, Dorothy Runell, Donna Denise and Darline Barksdale; a brother, Ed Fowler, Jr.; and sisters, Clara Mae Fowler, Annie Fowler Paden James, Minnie Lee Fowler Webb and Lucille Fowler Williams.
Left to cherish many fond memories are her daughter, Dora Barksdale (Dallas) Everette of Fayetteville, NC; sons, Charles Barksdale, Clifford Barksdale and Christopher Barksdale, all of Greenville; four grandchildren, Torrey Young, Joshua Barksdale, Daxavier Barksdale and Qualnic Barksdale; one great-grandchild, Grace Ann Mercy Barksdale; eight sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
