Ms. Harriett Ercelle Hill Pinckney

Harriett Ercelle Hill Pinckney, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025 at the age of 83. A lifelong advocate for children and education, she touched many lives through her kind spirit and unwavering dedication.

Born in Seneca, South Carolina January 30, 1942, Ercelle was the youngest daughter of Dr. Harold Eugene Hill and Mrs. Eugenia Ashmore Hill, who instilled in her the values of education, integrity, resilience, and compassion. These qualities became the foundation of her character and guided her throughout her life. She was a proud Class of 1959 graduate of the prestigious Boylan-Haven-Mather Academy in Camden, SC (more affectionately known as “Mather Academy.”) attended Benedict College in Columbia, SC and obtained her accreditation from Tri County Tech, Pendleton, SC in Early Child Development. Her education laid the groundwork for a life of purpose, particularly during her 30 years working with Head Start, where she devoted herself to nurturing and supporting young children during their most formative years.

Ercelle was the devoted mother of two children: her daughter, DeLaciea Pinckney Keaton of Conyers, GA and her son, Dr. Joseph (Lori)Pinckney, Jr. of Charlotte, NC. She found immense joy in being a grandmother to her three beloved grandchildren: Eric Keaton of Athens, GA and Nia Pinckney and Lauren Pinckney of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by her loving sister, Marilyn Hill Harper of Aspen, CO, nephews Harry H. Harper (Cathy) of Salinas, CA and Hill Harper of Seattle, WA and a host of family and friends.

Ercelle will always be remembered for her warm heart, quiet strength, and enduring love for her family and friends. Her legacy lives on in the lives of those she touched.

Funeral Services: Wednesday, April 23, 2025, 11:00am, at Watkins Garrett & Woods Mortuary, with interment in Oconee Memorial Park.
