Nathaniel Fryer

October 5, 1937 — May 12, 2019

We pause to honor the memory of Nathaniel Fryer who was called from his earthly labor to his eternal home at St. Francis Hospital, Greenville, South Carolina, on Sunday, May 12, 2019, at 7:11am.  Nathaniel the youngest of six children was born on October 5, 1937, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Dennis and Pauline Fryer.

Nathaniel was a graduate of Fuller Normal Industrial Institute in Greenville, South Carolina. In 1963, he enlisted in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1969 as an E-7, Sergeant 1st Class. In 1988, Nathaniel retired from his civilian job as a multi-talented printer with Dow Chemical Company (formerly Texize Company).

While employed, Nathaniel was introduced to the Metal Recycling Industry. In retirement, this hobby developed into a passion which allowed him to remain active. He and his red truck could be spotted hauling a trailer around Greenville and the surrounding counties.

On June 2, 1967, Nathaniel “Tootie” was united in holy matrimony to Emma Gene Rosemond Gibson “Toot”. They had a blended family of six children. He was a devoted husband, protective father, and a great provider for his family. Sensitive to the thoughts and concerns of others, Nathaniel had a sincerely giving spirit. His enormous smile, tough love and extraordinary work ethic will be cherished.

Nathaniel’s baptism and profession of faith in Jesus allowed him opportunities to serve in the following churches: Mountain View Holiness, Nicholtown Presbyterian, Mattoon Presbyterian, (Elder/ Sunday School Teacher), Mount Calvary Interdenominational and most recently Galilee Baptist Church.

Left to cherish many fond memories are his loving wife, Emma G. Rosemond Gibson Fryer of the home; three daughters, Margaret A. (John L. Jr.) Mayes of Greenville, Nathania L. (Maxwell) Headley of Fayetteville, NC, and Maggie D. (Johnny) Wright of Simpsonville; three sons, David E. (Mary) Gibson of Yelm, WA, Timothy Fryer of Lakewood, WA, and Roderick (Sharon) Fryer of Burlington, NC; one sister, Ruth Jones of Spartanburg; two brothers, William Fryer of Stratford, CT, and Samuel Fryer of Spartanburg, SC; eleven grandchildren; eight great-grand-children; and a host of other relatives and friends.
