Nathaniel Jordan

On January 3, 1932, Nathaniel Jordan was born in Madison, Georgia, to the late Mozell Jordan and Floyd Jordan. Nathaniel was one of ten children. On Thursday, October 3, 2019, he went home to be with the LORD, transitioning from earth to glory.

Jordan gave his life to Christ at an early age and joined Mount Perry Baptist Church in Madison, Georgia. While living in Clearview, Florida, Jordan united with Macedonia Baptist Church and was ordained a deacon in addition to being a Sunday school teacher. In recent years, he united with Piney Grove Missionary Baptist Church in Lyman, South Carolina. His presence will be greatly missed because of his loving kindness to all and his caring and generous spirit. He was a big man with an even bigger heart.

As a youth, he enjoyed hunting rabbits with his father and brothers on the farm as well as swimming. He was nicknamed “Chicken” by his classmates because the only girls he ever had with him in his car were his seven sisters. Jordan loved his sisters and was responsible for taking care of them. His care for his sisters has been a lifelong labor of love.

After graduating from Bunny Street High School, Jordan joined the U.S. Air Force and made it a career. Nathaniel Jordan united in Holy Matrimony to Grace Marie Hawkins in 1952, and they were married for 64 years. Jordan and Grace traveled the world together for 24 years, while serving in the U.S. Air Force until he retired. From this union they had one beloved daughter, Phyllis Elaine, who preceded them in death. Although he had only one child, his son-in-law, Alonzo Warren, thought of him as his father.

Sometime after retiring from the Air Force, Jordan and Grace returned to Greenville, South Carolina, to be caretakers for Grace’s father and stepmother until their passing. While living in Greenville, Jordan was a security guard at Scott Towers until they closed.

Jordan loved his family and he was especially proud of his grandchildren, J’von and Ta’nicca Warren. They were the joy of his life. In his final days, Jordan never complained, but continuously praised His Lord and Savior. Jordan had made his peace with God a long time ago, and he wanted to go ‘home.’ “To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord” (II Cor. 5:9).
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Grace Jordan; a daughter, Phyllis Elaine Warren; five sisters, Willie Ann Jordan, Lillie Mae Jordan, Ruby Neal Jordan, Annette Jordan and Dorothy Jean Jordan; and two brothers, Thomas Jordan and Freeman Jordan.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are two sisters, Sylemone Jordan of New Jersey, and Artilia Jones of Rome, GA; two grandchildren, J’Von (Jessica) Warren and Ta’nicca Warren, both of Fayetteville, NC; one great-granddaughter, Breanna Jackson of Fayetteville, NC; a son-in-law, Alonzo Warren; a sister-in-law, Min. Lillie (David) Burton; two brothers-in-law, Rev. Randolph (Marcia) Hawkins and Tommy Lee (Janice) Hawkins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
