Rev. Dr. Odell Lewis Robinson was the youngest and last surviving of fourteen children born to the late Mack and Matilda Robinson, Sr. He departed this life to go to his Heavenly home on July 22, 2018.
His purpose in life was to teach and preach the gospel of Jesus Christ so that men, women, boys and girls might be saved.
He served in the United States Army, fought in the Korean War and was honorably discharged with the rank of corporal.
Baptized in the Baptist faith, Dr. Robinson became a member of Mount Emmanuel Baptist Church where he served in the following capacities: Assistant Superintendent of Sunday School, Member of the Trustee Board and Deacon Board; and was Licensed and ordained under the leadership of the late Rev. C. E. Butler in 1965. His pastor now is Dr. Tony Boyce.
Dr. Robinson was educated in the public schools of Greenville County and V. A. School. He furthered his education by receiving diplomas from the following schools: the American Theological Seminary Extension School of Nashville, Tennessee; Voice of Prophecy; and Emerson Correspondence School. He received his Doctorate Degree in Theology from the American Bible Institute of Kansas City, Missouri. He served in the Enoree River Association as Vice President of the Sunday School Congress, Advisor to the Ushers Auxiliary, Founder of the Ushers Mass Choir and Vice-Moderator for four years. Dr. Robinson later became and served as Moderator of the Enoree River Union for four years. He was a member of the Tumbling Shoals Association.
He has served as pastor of four churches; Shiloh Baptist of Townsville, South Carolina, Rock Hill No. 2 of Greenville, South Carolina, New Mt. Bethel Baptist Church of Piedmont, South Carolina and recently retired from pastoring in January 2018, from New Bethlehem Baptist Church of Princeton, South Carolina.
Dr. Robinson was a member of the following organizations: Progressive National Baptist Convention, The Ministers Fellowship of Greenville, South Carolina and Vicinity, The E and M State Convention and the American Legion. He was a retiree of F.W. Woolworth Company
He was preceded in death by his parents; a daughter, Ella Marie Robinson; and thirteen brothers and sisters.
Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are his wife, Georgia Leatherwood Robinson of the home; two daughters, Brenda Leatherwood of Taylors and Della Robinson (Billy) Grover of Piedmont; nine grandchildren, Robin J. Davis, Frenchgerald (LaTonya) Davis, Sekedra (Darren) Rickenbacker, Brandon Leatherwood, Matthew D. Robinson, Avery Holland, Billy D. Grover, Ethan Grover, and Tyler Grover; twenty-four great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
