Rev. George C. “Bass Man” Miller, 66, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Wednesday, December 28, 2016. Born in Greenville, he was a son of the late James Carver and Frankie Mae Barnfield Miller.
Rev. Miller was a graduate of Washington High School, Class of 1969, and N.J. Brockman School of Theology. He was a retiree of Industrial Coaters Company and a veteran of the United State Navy.
He was a lifetime member of Rock of Ages Baptist Church and formerly pastored St. Luke Baptist Church and Mount Pleasant Baptist Church. The nickname “Bass Man” was derived from his love of music and the melodious sound of his voice. He sang with numerous singing groups spreading the gospel through song..
He was a former member of the Baptist Minister’s Fellowship, Progressive National Baptist Association, the Baptist E&M Association, the Upstate Elite Golf Association, the Inflation Fighters Bowling League and former Dean of the Reedy River Congress of Christian Education.
Left to cherish fond memories are his loving and devoted wife, Barbara Jones Miller of the home; three daughters, Layondra Miller of Fredericksburg, VA, Zorya Baker of Greenville, and Taishenna Miller of Columbia; two sisters, Jane (Jonathan) Watts and Margaret (Jimmy) Green, both of Greenville; one brother, Marvin Miller of Greenville; seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
