Mr. Richard Lee Blakely, 71, of 316 Terilyn Court, passed away on Saturday, January 30, 2016 at home. Born in Greenville, he was the son of Harold Eugene Pasley and the late Ruth Blakely Pasley. He was preceded in death by two sisters.
Mr. Blakely was the first African American kicker for the Atlanta Falcons. He was also a running back for the New York Jets. In the early sixties, he played baseball for the Negro Leaque. He was a graduate of Allen University and Benedict College. He retired from the United States Army after serving for 30 years.
Surviving, in addition to his father; a loving wife, Martha Geneva Joe Blakely of the home; daughter, Tamia Michelle Blakely of Columbia; stepdaughters, Sharon Richey of Duncan and Anastasia Irby of Pelzer; sons, Richard Blakely, Jr. of Florida and Brandon Deforrest Blakely of Columbia; seven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, and a host of other relatives and friends.
