Deacon Robert James “Pep” Pepper, 72, of Greenville , South Carolina, departed this life on Monday, November 11, 2019, at the Open Arms Hospice House. He was a son of the late R.J. and Missoura Bowling Pepper.
He was a 1965 graduate of Sterling High School and for forty-two years, he was the owner/operator of Pepper Masonry.
At an early age, he joined the St. Matthew Baptist Church in Piedmont, South Carolina, where he served as a member of the Young Adult Choir, the Usher Board, a Trustee, a Sunday School Teacher, a Sunday School Superintendent and Prison Ministry. In 2017, he joined Redeemed New Birth Baptist Church under the leadership of Bishop Grover Pepper where he served faithfully as a Deacon.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Precious Marie Pepper-Childs; and his godson, Bernard Moore.
Left to cherish fond memories are his wife of 51 years, Mrs. Earnestine M. Pepper of the home; daughters, Linda Brown and Lathonda Clinkscales, both of Piedmont, SC, and Robin Smith of Greenville, SC; one son, Robert J. Moore Pepper, Jr., of Greenville, SC, twelve grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; a goddaughter, Octavia Pepper of Mauldin, SC; a godson, Leron Moore of Greenville, SC; sisters, Louise Wilson of St. Louis, MO, Julia Davis of Ridge Springs, SC, and Brenda Dowdy of Piedmont, SC; a brother, Bishop Grover (Margaret) Pepper of Mauldin, SC; aunts, Iola Scott and Lavinia Pepper both of Greenville, SC; and a host of nieces, nephews, other family and friends.
