Robert Shamley

January 8, 1963 — January 27, 2019

Mr. Robert Anthony “Ant”, “Sham Rock” Shamley of 16 Maple St, Greenville, SC, was born on January 8, 1963, in Greenville, SC, to his loving mother, Carrie Shamley and the late David Irby. He leaves behind one brother, David Irby, Jr., of Greenville; one sister, Jackie (Michael) Hayes of Cartersville, GA; one nephew, Jody Harris; and one niece, Chancey Harris; he was also the loving godfather to Vanisha Bennett. He entered into eternal life on Sunday January 27, 2019, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville.

Anthony was a graduate of Berea High School in Greenville, SC, in which he participated in sports. He also attended classes at Greenville Technical College in Business Administration and Computers. He was a native of the Brutontown Community and a longtime member of The Brutontown Men’s Social Club where he participated in helping families and children in need.

Anthony was a loving, bullheaded and opinionated individual who was loved by an entire community. Growing up Anthony aka “Ant” was the jokester of the community, a protector of his family and was a loving supporter of anyone who needed his help. Growing up in the apartments at Rutherford Court in Brutontown, he was always one that brought all the young people together. His parties and get togethers were the best and “Ant” always welcomed anyone who wanted to come. His love of his family and his friends made it easy for everyone to come together with love.

“Sham Rock” was his nickname used by all of his loving friends whom he loved with all his heart and soul. “Sham Rock” was a sports enthusiast who always had a strong opinion about sports and would tell you about sports, play by play, and you better be quiet and listen. He loved to sit around with friends and debate sports, discuss current events and watch TV shows and a good movie. When “Sham Rock” walked into a room, you knew that some great discussion was about to take place - he was the life of the party. Robert Anthony “Ant” “Sham Rock” Irby was a man of honor and integrity and will be greatly missed by family and friends. The world will be a little different without Robert Anthony “Ant” “Sham Rock” Irby in it. He will be forever missed.

Anthony was predeceased by his late father, David Irby; a sister, Sabrina Harris; his grandmother, Roberta Palmer; grandparents, Mrs. Kathleen Criswell-Boyd and Mr. Bennie Frank Irby; an aunt, Frankie Ann-Irby Gillard; his uncles, Richard Irby, Curley “Coon” Irby and George Palmer.
