Rosa Lee Clement

June 23, 1924 — April 17, 2019

Mrs. Rosa Lee Coleman Clement, affectionately known as “Granny Rose”, was born in Belton, South Carolina, on June 23, 1924, the beautiful baby daughter of Jessie Coleman. She was reared after her mother’s death by her aunt and uncle, Ruth Coleman Turner and Ed Turner.

She departed this life on April 17, 2019, at the golden age of 94, surrounded by many of her loving children and grandchildren.

She loved the Lord, and grew up in New Hope Baptist Church in Belton. After moving to Greenville, she stayed in the church; she and her husband, the late Clyde Clement, joined Springfield Baptist Church in the early 1950s and raised their children in the church. She was featured in a special exhibit at the Greenville’s Up Country History Museum, representing parents of jailed civil rights demonstrators brought into court.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sons, McArthur Clement and Clyde “CJ” Clement, Jr.

She is survived by five daughters, Leola Robinson (Albert) Simpson, of Greenville, Geneva (Andrew) McCoy of Lothian, MD, Mildred Harris of Greenville, Rosemary Clement of Woodruff, and Marilyn Clement of Mauldin; fourteen grandchildren; thirty-eight great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
