Sarah Ellen Sullivan

May 20, 1944 — March 1, 2020

The Lord cares deeply when his loved ones die.” Psalm 116:15 (NLT)…this is truly the legacy of Sarah Ellen Sullivan, a very special child of God, a Christian, God-fearing woman, devoted sister, aunt, cousin and friend.

Sarah Ellen Sullivan, the second daughter of the late Reverend Henry Lawrence and Mrs. Essie Harris Sullivan, was born on May 20, 1944, in Greenville, South Carolina, and answered God’s call on Sunday, March 1, 2020, at Accordius Health Care Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina.

She was preceded in death by her parents and her elder sister, Barbara Louise Sullivan.

At an early age, Sarah Ellen joined the Nicholtown Baptist Church, under the pastorage of the late Rev. Dr. C. C. Stewart, Sr., where she was a faithful member for many years. She was active in youth ministries, young adult ministries, with a special love of Sunday school and singing in the choir. Sarah Ellen participated vigorously in the worship services at Accordius Health Care whenever they were held and her health permitted.

Sarah Ellen was reared in Greenville County, educated in the Greenville County Public schools and was a proud member of the Sterling High School Class of 1962, “The Mighty Tigers”. She had additional studies at Greenville Technical Education Center. Sarah was a faithful worker at the Greenville County Special Needs and Disabilities Workshop for many years, until her health prevented.

Memories of Sarah Ellen will be revered by those upon whom she interfaced…she never met a stranger. She was an “avid walker” and could be seen all over Greenville County, making friends, going to yard sales, and keeping up with all the local community events. Sarah loved people and would share whatever she had with anyone, whether some of her hand-woven potholders, yard sale finds, loose spare change or whatever she had. She also had a “real fondness” for an ice-cold Pepsi Cola and her menagerie of stuffed animals.

Sarah Ellen leaves to cherish fond memories two sisters, Ms. Henrietta V. Sullivan of Greenville, SC, and Minister Nell S. Hinton (Deacon James W.) of Raleigh, NC; four nieces and one nephew, Mrs. B. LaDonna S. Spears (J.D.) of Simpsonville, SC, Ms. Brenda L. Sullivan of Woodbridge, VA, Chief Lawrence Z. Spurgeon (Monique) of Warner Robins, GA, Ms. Curtrise L. Spurgeon and Ms. Courtney R. Hinton, both of Charlotte, NC; two grandnephews, Mr. Branden L. Sullivan of Simpsonville, SC, and Staff Sergeant Anthony M. Sullivan of San Antonio, TX; one grandniece, Ms. Zakia S. Spurgeon of Atlanta, GA; and a host of other relatives, friends and her family at Accordius Health.

And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write, Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the Spirit, that they may rest from their labours, and their works do follow them. Revelation 14:13
