Ms. Sharon Alfreda “Freda” Jones, 65, was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on July 19, 1953, and transitioned to Paradise early Sunday morning on June 23, 2019, at Prisma Health Upstate, due to complications of cancer. She was born to the late Pastor James Anthony, Sr., and Minister Mary Ellen Hamilton Jones.
She was a substitute teacher at Gower Street School located in the West Greenville community, where she remained until the accidental death of her daughter, Candance Jones, in 1988. She then left the school system and worked for Ostendorf Woodworks and Metropolitan Cleaners for many years.
She was an active member of Open Bible Church of Christ. She was also a part of the food sales committee, and she served as a volunteer for the food pantry every Thursday. Most of all, Freda enjoyed spending time with her sister, Anne Harrison, riding around visiting different thrift stores, eating at various restaurants and arguing about whose piece of meat was bigger than the other, lol. Anne and Freda were not only sisters, but best friends. She and Anne would go out every Wednesday to visit the sick and pray for them even though she was sick herself and given a time frame to live.
In the year of 2015, Freda Jones was diagnosed with Breast Cancer. She received chemotherapy, radiation, and had to undergo a bilateral mastectomy surgery, and soon after, she was informed that she had lung cancer as well. Following the mastectomy, she had to endure a partial lung removal procedure. Four years later, the cancer had spread throughout her body without any warning. She was told by the doctors that there was nothing more they could do for her, and they recommended that hospice take over her care. Freda was on hospice for one month before being rushed to the emergency room early Thursday morning on June 20th. She spent one day in ICU where she was in a medically induced coma for three days as her family loved and cared for her until she transitioned into Paradise. She loved to read books, the Bible, working crossword and word search puzzles, eating out, drinking Pepsi, shopping on QVC and fishing.
Freda Jones was predeceased by a daughter, Candance Octavia Jones; and two brothers, James Anthony Jones Jr., and Timothy O’Neal Jones.
Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are her son, Zachery (Michelle) Jones; grandsons, Raekwon Jones (reared in the home) of Greenville, Paris Jones of Atlanta, GA, and Zachery Jones, Jr., of Denver, Colorado; one great-grandson, Elijah Jones; three brothers, Charles (Minnie) Jones and Franklin (Joyce) Jones, both of Greenville, and Thomas (Phyllis) Jones of Augusta, GA; three sisters, Carolyn Sullivan, Anne (Leroy) Harrison and Patricia Jones Dendy; a god sister, Ingrid Davis; one sister-in-law, Sandra Jones of Greenville; her best friend, Pam Sullivan Chiles; and a host of other relatives and friends.
