While the voice of a well spent life stilled on Saturday, May 13, 2017, the life of Shirley M. Evans, will live on throughout eternity in the hearts and minds of those who loved her best. On the wings of doves, she ascended to that Heavenly place that she so often spoke about. Seventy-nine years of life, serving the Lord, loving and caring for her family and friends, Shirley M. Evans made an inalterable impact on all those who knew and loved her.
On April 10, 1938, Shirley M. Gambrell Evans was born to the late Charlie and M.E. Gambrell, in Simpsonville, South Carolina. She was the fifth child of nine children - five boys and four girls. Seven have preceded her in death: Moree Brown, Charlie, Jr., James, Arnell, John Gambrell, Sarah Bennett and Lillian Adams.
Shirley Evans attended Simpsonville Public Schools and was a graduate of Bryson High School Class of 1956.
Shirley was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church, in Piedmont, SC, where she served on the Usher Board for several years and was a Deaconess. She was the past President of the Reedy River Ushers’ Association .
Her husband of 53 years, Deacon Fletcher L. Evans, preceded her in death. To this union three children were born. She is survived by her children; Dorothea (Richard) Henry of Piedmont, SC; Russell (Patricia De’Alba) Evans of Parissominay, New Jersey and Ricky (Ericka) Evans of Greenville, SC; four grandchildren, Candace Evans of Hollywood, California, Alyssa and Brennen Evans and Myema Lee, all of Greenville, SC; one brother,
Charles (Martha) Gambrell; sister-in-law, Eunice Gambrell and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins , other relatives and friends.
All of those who knew and loved Mrs. Shirley M. Evans, knew from the heart that she was a faithful, loving, generous, caring wife, mother, grandmother, mother-in-law, sister-in-law, aunt and cousin, who was loved and cherished her family and most of all loved the Lord. Most of all, SHE WAS A GREAT ADVISOR.
Shirley Evans was a great nanny to two beautiful girls, Allene and Katie Fletcher.These girls loved “Shiree”, the name they affectionately called her.
