Steve Mayes

Mr. Steve “Pete Man” Mayes, 60, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Friday, April 12, 2019, at Spartanburg Regional Hospital. He was the youngest son of Thomas B. Mayes, Sr., and the late Ruth Poole Mayes.

He attended Southside High School and worked various jobs throughout his life. He worked for Greater Greenville where he drove a truck picking up roadside debris. Later he worked in construction for a company in Fountain Inn, then at an Auto Tire Wholesaler and finally he started his own lawncare service, which he loved.

Steve joined Long Branch Baptist Church in January of 2012, when he began to turning his life around.

Left to cherish many fond and loving memories are his father, Thomas Mayes, Sr. of Greenville, SC; one brother, Thomas (Amelia) Mayes, Jr., of Piedmont, SC; two sisters, Sandra (William) Talley of Piedmont, Sc, and Lisa Mayes of Greenville, SC; one uncle, Ted E. Mayes of Fountain Inn, SC; three aunts, Minnie Lee Smith of Greenville, SC, Evelyn Smith of Harvey, IL, and Betty Jean Clayton of Oakland, CA; two nieces, two nephews, three great-nephews and two great-nieces, sixteen first cousins; and a host of other relatives and friends.
