On Tuesday, March 7, 2017, God sent His angels to carry Mrs. Sunnie Alberta Cheeks Voorhees to His heavenly home. After a short period of declining health, pain and suffering, loved ones now know her trials and tribulations will be no more.
Mrs. Sunnie was born in Taylors, South Carolina, on February 14, 1932, to the late George Albert and Luezar Washington Cheeks. She attended Taylors Rosenwald School.
At an early age, she joined St. Matthew United Methodist Church, where she was a faithful and dedicated member. She served her church in many capacities including Wesleyan Service Guild, Youth Coordinator/Advisor, member of the Adult Choir and Hospitality Committee. She was predeceased by her husband, John Edward Voorhees; one daughter, Angela Voorhees Bowman and two sons, Gregory Alan Voorhees and John Edward Voorhees, Jr.
Left to cherish many fond memories are her daughters, Yvonne Voorhees Goodwin of Travelers Rest, SC, Donna V.
