Mrs. Thomasenia “Tommie” Jackson departed this life at her home in Greenville, South Carolina, on Tuesday, November 1, 2016, at the age of 73. She was educated in the Greenville County School System and was a graduate of Sterling High School. She grew up in the Freetown neighborhood, attended Friendship Baptist Church, and she also played the piano. She later moved to Woodstream Apartments where she lived for more than 30 years.
She was a member of the Mt. Sinai Missionary Baptist Church and a retiree of Peden Contractors Construction Company.
Thomasenia was preceded in death by her parents, Thomas Charles Hawthorne, Sr. and Ethel Wells Hawthorne; a brother, Ruben Wells and grandparents, Peter and Georgia Furgerson Wells.
She is survived by her children, Anita (John) Talbert of Piedmont, SC, Malcolm (Lisa) James of St. Mary’s, GA, Michael Hawthorne, Denise Jackson and Roderick Jackson, all of Greenville, SC; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; siblings, Mena Williams and Gwen Hawthorne, both of Greenville, SC, and Thomas Charles (Sharon) Hawthorne Jr., of Easley, SC; aunt, Vinnie Lee Watson of Greenville, SC; sister-in-law, Connie Wells of Charlotte, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends too remember her.
