Mr. Vanderbilt “Van” Evans, Jr., son of the late Vanderbilt Evans, Sr., and Bessie Nash Evans, was born in Greenville, South Carolina, on December 22, 1937, and departed this life on Friday, February 24, 2017, at Calvary Hospital, Bronx, New York.
“Van” spent his childhood in Greenville where he graduated from Sterling High School in 1956. He was a veteran of the United States Army.
At an early age, he joined New Forksville Baptist Church and was a dedicated member for many years.
He leaves to cherish fond memories: two sons, Rodney Evans and Bernard Sullivan both of Bronx, New York; one daughter, Faye, also from New York; his former wife, Betty Haynes of Lithonia, Georgia; one sister, Dorthula (Clarence) Breazeale of Greenville, South Carolina; two grandsons, Malachi and Rasheed Evans, both of Bronx, New York; a special nephew, Herman McCullough; goddaughter, Sandra Lewis; godson, Rodney Evans; special close friends, Pete Acker, W. C. Collier, Johnny Flemming and Napoleon McGreer and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.
