Vinia Watson

April 17, 1917 — December 2, 2017

Mrs. Vinia Lee Watson, 100, of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Saturday, December 2, 2017, at Magnolia Manor-Greenville. She was born on April 10, 1917, in Newberry County to the late William and Elizabeth Hatton Hawthorne.

She was a graduate of Sterling High School and a retiree of the former Stone Manufacturing Company.

She was a lifetime member of the Friendship Baptist Church where she previously served as president of the Junior Usher Board, Senior Usher Board, Bible Training Union teacher, member of the C.E. Butler Chorus, the Willing Workers’ Club and the Senior Missionary Ministry.

She was preceded in death by her parents; sisters, Louvenia Hawthorne and Isabella Norris; brothers, William Hawthorne, T.C. Hawthorne, and Lewis Hawthorne; a nephew, Calvin Hawthorne; and a niece, Thomasenia Jackson.

She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Left with treasured memories are her nieces and nephews, Zelphia (Charles P.) Arnold, Mena Williams, Robert (Betty) Norris and Gwen Hawthorne, all of Greenville, SC, T.C. (Sharon) Hawthorne, Jr., of Easley, SC, William Hawthorne of Summerville, SC and Arthur Lee (Monique) Hawthorne of Los Angeles, CA; and a host of great-nieces, great-nephews, great-great-nieces; great-great-nephews; other relatives and friends.
