Walter Byrd, Jr.

Mr. Walter “June” Byrd, Jr., was born on November 5, 1943, in Greenville, South Carolina. He was a son of the late Walter and Pearlie Johnson Byrd. He departed this life on Saturday, April 22, 2017, at St. Francis Hospital.

“June” worked at Bahan Textile Company until it closed, after which he worked at Mauldin Manufacturing Company until he retired. He was loved and well respected in his community. He was a member of the Aiken Chapel Baptist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Tessie Byrd; and his sisters and brothers, Annie Bell, Oscar, Essie Mae, Ruth, Marvin “Jack”, Bertha, Gertrude, Sarah and Juanita.

He leaves to cherish many fond memories, his niece, Janice Johnson of the home; a daughter, Bridget Byrd of Greenville; two sisters, Doris (Roy) Spurgeon of Greenville and Pearl Jenkins of Taylors; two grandsons, Elijah Byrd of West Virginia and Jermiah Byrd of Greenville and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
