Walter Jackson

On September 7, 2022, Walter Cornell Jackson Sr., at the age of 68, joined his loved ones in heaven. Born February 18, 1954, He was a son of the late Cornell Jackson and Margaret Hunt.

He was raised in Easley, South Carolina by his grandparents, Richmond and Mary Hunt, along with his Aunt Mary Sligh and Aunt Earnestine “Von” Gamble, who were like sisters to him.

As a teenager, he moved to Hartford, Connecticut to be with his mother, Margaret. It was there he formed a new base, met his beloved wife, Cynthia Kitchen, and raised two sons, Walter “J” and Detrick Jackson.
Walter Sr. dedicated over 30 years to the Yellow Cab Company where he was a leader of many men. He was passionate about his work and well respected as a dispatcher and cab driver throughout Hartford. When Walter was not working, he could be found at church, or most of the time fishing with his boy Al Ray, or at home relaxing watching the games and spending time with his family. He was a member of Foundation Missionary Baptist Church with John Wesley United Methodist Church where he sang in the Men’s Choir, an Usher and a member of the Van Ministry.

After his wife passed in 2004, his heart led him back to Easley, South Carolina where he was raised. It was there he was able to build a nurturing lifelong relationship with his dear friend and companion Gloria Sloan. He continued to work as a local driver, where he built new meaningful relationships with the ones he served.

He was predeceased by his parents, Cornell Jackson and Margaret Hunt; his grandparents, Richmond Hunt, Elise Hunt and Mary Ledbetter Hunt; his brother Ricky Jackson and wife Cynthia Deloris Jackson.

He is survived by two sisters, Dora Diane Chancellor of North Carolina, and Tori Davis of Georgia; two sons, eldest Walter C. Jackson Jr. and his wife Trena Jackson of Lewiston, ME and Detrick Jackson of New Hampshire; five grandchildren, Accalia, Walter III, Deidrah, Jamari, and JJ; two great-grandchildren, Lei'yah and Omari and a host of other relatives, and friends.


Funeral Service: Saturday, October 15, 2022, 11:00pm, at Watkins, Garrett & Woods Mortuary with interment private interment.
