Mr. Walter Americus Perry, Jr., was born on December 13, 1940, in Greenville, South Carolina, to the late Reverend Walter A. Perry, Sr., and Myrtle Cox Perry. He departed this life on Wednesday, April 18, 2018, at Regency Hospital located in St. Francis Hospital-Downtown.
Walter attended the Greenville County schools. Shortly after leaving Sterling High School, he was drafted into the United States Army. He served a tour of duty in Greenland and was honorably discharged in 1969.
He retired from J.P. Stevens Company and later started his own lawncare service. Walter loved to play golf and was a member of the Elite Golf Association, where he played with some really nice gentlemen; we know that some of them are here today.
Walter was preceded in death by his parents; one daughter, Pamela Perry; and two sisters, Mary M. Perry and Juanita P. Love.
He is survived by his loving daughters, Anita Stephens of New York, Yoko Connor of Simpsonville, SC, and Sonya Nichol Perry of Fairforest, NC; sons, Antonio Blackwell of Delaware and Curtis Lavon Perry of Greenville, SC; five sisters, Sylvia P. Scott and Lois P. (Milton) Brown, both of Greenville, SC, VanDee A. Perry of Union City, GA, Cynthanie W. Sumpter of Fairburn, GA and Brigetta Z. Perry, of Union City, GA; three brothers, James R. Perry of Greenville, Jeremiah H. Perry of Union City, GA, and Walter A. (Bessie) Perry, II of Decatur, GA; a niece raised as a sister, Mary E. Perry of Greenville, SC; thirteen grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; a loving and devoted friend of many years, Ms. Shirley and her children, Shiree and Demetrius Johnson, all of Atlanta, GA; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
