Walter Smith

March 2, 1930 — January 5, 2019

Mr. Walter Frank Smith of Greenville, South Carolina, departed this life on Saturday, January 5, 2019. He was predeceased by his loving and devoted wife, Virginia Perkins Smith.He was born on March 22, 1930, to the late Alvin and Viola Smith.

Mr. Smith graduated from Sterling High School in 1949. He retired from Overnight Trucking Company, after his retirement, he volunteered at a local nursing home.

He was a very active member of the Greater Mt. Calvary Baptist Church until his health started declining. He served as Chairman of the Deacon Board, Financial Secretary, and was a member of the Male Chorus and Senior Choir. He loved serving the Lord.

He was the recipient of the Outstanding Service Award in 1990 and the Mature Citizen Award in 1999. He received these honors from his church family. In 1994, he received the Perkins’ Family Award.
Mr. Smith is survived by three daughters; Violeita Irby of Simpsonville, SC, Waltina Dirton of Greenville, SC, and Carol Searles (Barron) of Greenville, SC; two sisters, Susie (Leroy) Blassingame of Greenville, SC, and Scottie Lou Williams of Greenville, SC; six grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; a close friend, Wayne Pepper; several nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends.

In addition to his wife and parents, he was predeceased by one sister, Alberta Griffin; and two brothers, Odell Smith and TJ Smith.
