William Rogers

The steps of a good man are ordered by the Lord: and he delighteth in his way. Psalm 37:23

Mr. William “Bill” Rogers, affectionately known as “Daddy Bill”, was born on August 9, 1933, in Oconee County, South Carolina, to the late Jefferson and Helen Jenkins Rogers, and was called home to eternal rest on Tuesday, November 19, 2019. On Monday night as the Father looked down from heaven and saw how Papa was struggling with every breath he took, He knew that Papa was tired so He spoke to His angels and said, I am sending you to Cannon Memorial Hospital to bring one of my children home. He has fought a good fight. He has lived by my commands but most of all He has accepted me as his personal Savior. I have prepared for him a place of eternal rest, joy and peace. No more doctors, medicines, hospitals, or pain.

Bill attended school in Oconee County but only received a 3rd grade education because he had to quit school to help his parents work to make ends meet. He was a man full of love and wisdom. He joined St. Peter Baptist Church in Oconee County at a very young age. Later, he became a member of Cold Springs Baptist Church in Pickens, SC, where he served faithfully as a member until his health began to fail. He didn’t serve in any official capacity such as a Deacon or Trustee, but he took pride in ensuring that the sanctuary, church grounds and cemetery were in order.

Bill started working at Stewart Lumber Company in Six Mile, South Carolina, at the age of 16, and worked there for 30+ years. He later became employed at BI-LO Grocery in Pickens for more than 25 years.

Bill was a soft-spoken man with a big heart – a very humble and always had a kind word to say about everyone. He loved working outside, especially cutting grass and working on his lawn mowers and tractor. He was a good provider for his family, always making sure all of their needs were met, not their wants!! He supported his grandchildren by attending their graduations (kindergarten, high school and college). He also attended all of their sporting and church events. He loved Quartet singing and attending gospel singing programs.

He was the last survivor of his immediate family. He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Mrs. Charlena Gowens Rogers; two sons, Tony Rogers and Timothy Rogers; two sisters, Flossie Redding and Bertha Bryant; and two brothers, Harold Rogers and J.B. Rogers.

Left to cherish many memories are a daughter, Minister Jackie (Harry) Hunter of Seneca, SC; two sons, Michael (Patricia) Rogers of Easley, SC, and Glenn Rogers of the home; eleven grandchildren, Desiree Rogers and Shawn Rogers both reared in the home and Michelle Rogers, Lionel Hunter, Derrick Gamble, Josh Gamble, Shaquille Rogers, Raymond Rogers, Monica Rogers, Dezmond Rogers, and Jada Rogers; fifteen great-grandchildren, Aaryn Josiah reared in the home, affectionately known as “AJ” was Papa’s heart. Papa loved all of his children, grand-children and great-grandchildren unconditionally.
