Mrs. Zelma M. Gambrell, of Greenville, South Carolina, passed on Tuesday, August 28, 2018, at her home. She was a daughter of the late Hazie Miller and Christine Lomax Miller.
Zelma had a long history in hair care that makes her a legend. Her legacy will prevail for many years from her contributions to the community: instructor, stylist, mentor and chemist. She opened her salon to give beauticians their first experience as stylists. She created over twenty years ago, Tropical Silk Hair Care Products line. Mrs. Gambrell co-partnered a beauty supply store for over twenty-five years with her son, Roland.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, James Robert Gambrell; and a daughter, Eleanor Gambrell Harrison.
She is survived by her beloved son, Roland Gambrell of the home; a nephew raised in the home, James E. Harrison of Greenville, SC; three sisters, Adell (Thomas) Davis of Myrtle Beach, SC, Hazel R. Miller of Columbia, SC, and Cynthia Hasan of Denver, CO; four brothers, Bobby (Kyle) Miller and Berkeley Miller, both of Greenville, SC, Garnell Miller and Philander (Karmen) Miller, both of Denver, CO; two grand-children, Adrienne Avery Townsend of Atlanta, GA, and Leonard Harrison of South Carolina; four great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends.
